Free Self-Defense Classes Offered for LGBT New Yorkers

City Council responds to recent attacks against LGBT people

In light of the recent series of attacks against LGBT New Yorkers, the New York City Council is teaming up with the Center for Anti-Violence Education to offer free self-defense trainings around the city.

These trainings will teach violence prevention strategies and help provide the LGBT community with tools to stay safe, especially during Pride month.

The kick-off class will be held this Saturday, June 8, at the LGBT Center (208 West 13th St.) at 4pm. An additional evening class has been scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, at the Hudson Guild Elliot Center (441 West 26th St.) at 7pm. Additional self-defense classes in Brooklyn and Queens will be announced in the coming weeks.

Reservations are required, and space is limited. Call 212-788-5613 or email events@council.nyc.gov to RSVP.
