First Ever Palm Springs Getaway Event Focused On Women Of Color Launches In October

BLISS weekend debuts in Palm Springs this fall!

A new weekend vacation for LGBT women of color by LGBT women of color will debut in Palm Springs on October 1. Created by Movement Productions, the long-awaited four-day first-of-its-kind event promises an exciting experience.

While there are events and parties specifically for lesbian women of color in cities nationwide, BLISS is the first gathering of this magnitude. Organizers say BLISS, “An Oasis for Women of Color in the Desert,” will celebrate the diversity of women who love women and their allies. Producers hope this will be the first of many events designed for gay women of color.

Located at the Ace Hotel and Swim Club, activities range from a Latin tea dance to pool and cocktail parties and end with a farewell brunch.

The weekend getaway will feature performers, events and music representing different cultures. Artists and DJs from across the county will provide an array of musical performances from various genres, including hip hop and Bhangra. Excursions to popular local destinations, including Agua Caliente Indian Canyons and the Moorten Botanical Garden are also offered.

“Events like this are important for the lesbian community specifically because there are so few events that target women of color,” said Christine De La Rosa, Co-Producer of Movement Productions. “Women of color have such rich and diverse cultures that we rarely see reflected in the mainstream lesbian community. Creating a weekend that programs specifically with women of color in mind is long overdue.”

“We are looking forward to creating a village for lesbian women of color and our allies to come together, enjoy each other and make lifelong connections that will grow year after year just like BLISS Weekend,” De La Rosa added.
