NY Nightlife: Editor’s Picks (March 2010)

Snapshot, Queens of Burlesque, Florence Nightengayla and More!

The Florence NightenGayla @ LQ

Grab a paper gown, ladies…it’s time to play doctor. On March 21, don’t miss The Florence NightenGayla, the HRC/Showtime Nurse Jackie premiere party! The first 100 guests will get a scrumptious Grey Goose cocktail on the house, with prizes for the best Jackie-inspired costume. This ain’t your daddy’s medical drama – you’ll see last season’s finale and catch the season two premiere of the best thing on TV since RuPaul’s Drag Race. Your $20 entry donation gets you an annual HRC membership, and that’s just sexy. Plus, with tons of cute gays, DJ Susan Levine’s hot beats and a little luck, you might end up getting a full body examination.

Beso! @ Burrito Bar

Brooklyn, this one’s for you – your days of tedious train rides into Manhattan are over. Sir Sabrina and DJ Stacy are bringing the spicy girl-on-girl funtivities to you! Beso, a brand spanking new Monday night shindig features guest DJs, $1 random shot specials all night, free chips and Burrito Bar’s famous salsa, and the best $5 margaritas a girl could ask for. Sir Sabrina makes a mean cocktail, so come early and get some delectable Mexican food to go with it. Come back on Wednesday nights for Stacyoke, the best night of twisted karaoke in any borough. Studies have shown that people who party with DJ Stacy are 5 million times happier than those who don’t, so get your buns to Flatbush Ave and steal some besos!

Queens of Burlesque @ Le Poisson Rouge

Burlesque is back, and it’s high time you joined the revival. Spice up this cold, sludgy month with Murray Hill’s Queens of Burlesque show on March 11. Mr. Showbiz has worked his mustache magic to bring you the best of the best, from London’s acclaimed Immodesty Blaize to Seattle’s stellar impersonator Indigo Blue. NYC’s own showstoppers, Dirty Martini, Julie Atlas Muz and reigning Miss Exotic World Angie Pontani will surely represent, as Catherine D’Lish, Perle Noir from New Orleans and Chicago’s Michelle L’Amour round out this all star lineup.

Lesbo A Go Go @ The Stonewall Inn

Whether you’re a full-blown voyeur or just an average Jane who appreciates observing the fine female form, Lesbo A Go Go’s Friday night lineup will keep you rapt with attention. The city’s most talented rotation of girl dancers show off their skills at Stonewall as Sir Sabrina, Kristine and Poppi dish out delicious frosty drinks to keep you from breaking a sweat. You’re guaranteed a good time with this fun and zany mixed crowd.

We Love the Golden Girls 3 @ the Stonewall inn

If you think Miami is nice and you’ll say it thrice, then this party is for you! Come show your respect for your favorite blue-haired broads at the Victoria Party’s 3rd Annual FTF Drag Tribute to the Golden Girls. Any party with an open cheesecake bar is sweet, and host Linda Simpson and the original faux-drag Golden Girl troupe guarantee a seriously fun time. Bring your A game, because winners of the best Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia look-alike contests could win Joan Rivers tickets, the Q Guide to the Golden Girls, and more! If for some ridiculous reason you don’t have any Miami circa 1985/classy old lady outfits in your closet, the talented crew at the signature “Style Station” will transform you into the hot old broad you can hope to be one day. NYC is no St. Olaf, but on March 6th, it will be almost as awesome.

Snapshot @ Bar 13

The rumors are true, kiddies: baby *snapshot* is turning 6 and coming home where she belongs. On March 16, NYC’s Tuesday night staple is returning to Bar 13, where East meets West and the city’s cutest girls meet their matches. *snapshot* is getting a sexy anniversary makeover with an injection of cultural delights, art, dance and film exhibitions, live musical performances, theme nights and a fresh crop of hot DJs, all at Manhattan’s most convenient location. The roofdeck is calling!

Anything Goes @ the Stonewall inn

So you’re not about to be the next American Idol, but a few drinks under your belt and you’ll be singin’ like you mean it. You girlfriends can cheer you on or work it with you behind the mic. Every Thursday night is now Ladies’ Karaoke with Danielle and the Anything Goes posse. Spank her at a game of pool and score free shots while cocktail waitress hotcakes roam the premise with tasty Jell-O shots. And after wowing your friends with those vocal gifts, DJ Stacy will hit the decks with new dance music.

St. Patrick’s Day @ Ginger’s

Any self-respecting girl with even a whiff of Irish blood knows there’s only one place to go on St. Patrick’s Day. Straight out of County Wexford, owner and proud ginger Sheila Frayne invites all you adorable queers to get Gaelic with prize giveaways, excellent drink specials and Ms. Kitty Galvin’s complimentary shepherd’s pie, made from her very secret and highly coveted County Clare recipe! Plus, it’s Ginger’s anniversary! They’ve been serving Brooklyn girls and bois for ten years now, and in this town that is serious cause for celebration.
