The model is sober and has wanted a kid since she was 16.

Cara Delevingne has been sober for four months and now plans to freeze her eggs. The 30-year-old model/actress/queer-icon told Vogue “I’ve wanted a kid since I was 16,” last month in an interview that explored her decision to get sober and what’s next for her journey.

Delevingne, who graces Vogue’s April cover, continued “I want babies so bad. Back then I would not have been ready, of course—I just wanted to replace the need to look after my mom with a kid of my own.” (Pandora, Delevingne’s mom has also struggled with addiction.)

Before getting sober and focusing on her future plans, Delevingne admits she was in a “bad place.” She made headlines in September 2022 after paparazzi images of her looking unkempt at the Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles surfaced. She was not wearing shoes in the photo and was visibly disheveled.

“I hadn’t slept. I was not O.K.,” Delevingne said of the photos in her Vogue interview. “It’s heartbreaking because I thought I was having fun, but at some point, it was like, O.K., I don’t look well.”

The photos did have a silver lining that ended up being the reality check Delevingne needed to get sober. “You know, sometimes you need a reality check, so in a way, those pictures were something to be grateful for,” she told Vogue.

She entered long-term treatment after seeing the photos.

“All I knew is if I was continuing to go down the road I was, I would either end up dead or, like, doing something really, really stupid […] That was scary. […]Treatment was the best thing. It was always something I was very scared of, but I think I needed that community. I needed that support group.”

Now, Delevingne is enjoying her clean and sober life, continuing treatment, therapy, and yoga to keep her on track. She now has the chance to realize one of her life-long goals: to become a mom.
