Captivating Couples 2012

This year, we celebrate couples who have taken the plunge and tied the knot—legally. Hailing from the tri-state area and beyond, measuring the length of their relationships in months as well as decades, they embody what courage, commitment and love are all about.

Lorena & Dustyn
Brooklyn, NY
Lorena, 37, works in corporate finance
Dustyn, 30, mechanical engineer; author, Making Things Move

Since falling head over heels in love at first glance three and a half years ago, Lorena and Dustyn haven’t left each other’s sight. Though their careers vary—Lorena works in the corporate world, while Dustyn is studying for her PhD in Mechanical Engineering and works with robots—they bonded over their love of adventure travel. On one scuba-diving trip to Belize, Dustyn proposed to Lorena by offering her a treasure map with her ring as the prize. Their globe-hopping style led them to plan a wedding on a private island near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (after doing it legally in Connecticut). “First we thought about doing it in Provincetown, because we thought it would be ‘safer’… then, I just fell in love with the idea of a destination wedding on the beach, and wanted a place where my Spanish-speaking family would feel comfortable,” Lorena says. “It was an amazing day that our family and friends will never forget.” Their spectacular event was even featured on the wedding blog Style Me Pretty, one of the site’s few two-bride weddings, a fact that gives them a feeling of lasting pride.
