Ft. Lauderdale Mayor Jim Naugle, a Democrat, offended his constituents and jeopardized his city’s multi-billion dollar gay tourism industry in July 2007 by declaring the need for single-occupancy public toilets to “reduce homosexual sex in bathrooms.”

In August 2007, Idaho’s Republican Senator Larry Craig was arrested for allegedly soliciting an undercover male cop in an airport restroom by tapping his feet and making hand gestures under the stall. In September, Senator Craig pled guilty to lesser charges of disorderly conduct. While Craig has not resigned, he will not seek re-election.
