Queenie and Ruby are the mega-babe duo that you’ve likely seen performing as their band, Sateen, at a Brooklyn bar or hosting at a chic Manhattan party. They met on OkCupid with the intention to make music together, but they realized what they had was even more profound than an artistic connection, and they fell in love. They were married in 2014 at City Hall, a la Sarah Jessica Parker.

When scrolling through their largely followed Instagram, you can feel the couples’ love for each other. “Some couples have hang-ups, like they won’t share an email password or let each other see their phones or something. We not only do that, but we literally share underwear!” says Queenie. The pair had to face challenges to get to their current point of comfort and trust. They say their relationship was challenged when Ruby came out as a transgender woman. “Our relationship was strong, but it now had to transcend the basic, taken-for-granted notion that we were in a hetero relationship. But we worked it out and ultimately came into our own individual truths: Ruby as a trans lesbian and Queenie as a pansexual cis female.”

Ruby’s favorite thing about Queenie is “when we are together I feel like I am with my true family. She has made me feel most like how I felt when I was a really young child. It is a pure feeling that nobody has ever even come close to.” Queenie says, “Ruby cooks like an angel, and she plays the guitar like a goddess. Her freckles are my favorite thing on this earth. But my favorite thing about her is that she is literally my other half.”
