LOLA LOVE
Founder and Creative Director, Pretty Peacock Productions

Honolulu-based performer Lola Love, founder and creative director of Pretty Peacock Productions, is a pioneer in the Aloha State´s burlesque revolution. Her company produces original productions for special events in a variety of styles—classic burlesque, striptease, Vegas showgirl and more. Love herself specializes in samba and Latin dance—she´s appeared at the world-famous New York Burlesque Festival—and handles all of the booking and promotion for her roster of artists. As the headmistress of the Academy of Tease, Hawaii´s only burlesque school, Love designs more than 200 classes covering burlesque´s history, dance styles and glamour every year, and welcomes students of all ages, genders and experience. Students practice their moves in the school´s troupe, the Rhinestone Revue. Love also serves as the director of programming for BurlyCon, an annual burlesque convention, to spread burlesque´s message of self-empowerment, equality and diversity. ″My biggest source of inspiration is creating stories that are not represented in mainstream media,″ she says. ″I am inspired to use the art of burlesque and fuse it with technology to create dialogue about important topics that most theatrical productions don´t discuss—pansexuality, gender roles, polyamory, LGBTQ issues, or simply promoting strong female characters.″
