The Very Best of NYC Comedy/Variety

Re-Designing Women, Fresh Fruit Festival, Pound and much more

How can you possibly miss a show called Caity & Cyndi's Boobs? Answer: you can’t! But there’s a serious subject beyond the playful title. Caitlin and Cyndi both tested positive for the breast cancer gene (the BRCA genetic mutation). What do they do now? This conversational show presents true, personal stories about science told by comedians Caitlin Brodnick and Cyndi Freeman and is playing for one night only on Jun 13.

You remember those sassy Southern belles of Designing Women, right? Well, even if you don’t, catch the NYC premiere of unauthorized original comedy parody by Jamie Morris, Re-Designing Women, celebrating one of the most beloved TV sitcoms of the 1980s. Catch it thru Jun 21 at the Baruch Performing Arts Center.

The beloved Fresh Fruit Festival returns Jul 6-19 to The Wild Project (and other venues) to celebrate LGBTQ arts and culture. During this critically acclaimed annual festival, attendees can look forward to a diverse array of artistic expression including plays, dance performances, cabaret showcases, spoken word programs and film screenings. All Out Arts presents the festival “to celebrate the LGBTQ community’s unique perspective, creativity and diversity, and to build links between the LGBTQ artistic communities, be they local or international.”

Community fave and award-winning comedian Marga Gomez is headlining the 24th Annual HOT! Festival at Dixon Place with Pound, a hilarious new show about her journey to a cloud-based lesbian Bermuda Triangle where famous fictional lesbians come to life. Need we say more? The bad news is there are only six performances from Jul 10 thru 25. When you go to see Pound, be sure to hang out for a while. The Dixon Place Lounge is open before and after the show. Proceeds directly support Dixon Place’s artists and mission.
