100 Women We Love: Class of 2009

Once again, we celebrate our favorite out and proud women. As difficult as it is to narrow it down to just 100, this year’s eclectic list includes artists, athletes, club promoters, community organizers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, politicians and plaintiffs, who are making a difference in our world and the world at large.

Susan Cogger

As Director of Development and Communications for Minneapolis-based Philanthrofund Foundation, Susan Cogger works to advance social justice for LGBT communities in the Upper Midwest. “LGBT equality has seen huge improvements in the Midwest,” says Susan. “But there are still challenges.” A former American Express executive, Susan is also a founding member of the non-profit Project 515, whose first bill will protect Minnesotan same-sex couples from losing their homes in the event of a partner’s illness or death. The bill was signed by the Governor in May. Susan explains that the impact of her work spans the globe as well, “A year ago I traveled to Cape Town, South Africa and was so moved by the experience, that I brought a proposal to PFund to fund a scholarship for an LGBT student in Guguletu. I’m proud to report that we just awarded a scholarship to a trans man there.” -KD

Remember, these are in no particular order because we love them all!
