100 Women We Love: Class of 2009

Once again, we celebrate our favorite out and proud women. As difficult as it is to narrow it down to just 100, this year’s eclectic list includes artists, athletes, club promoters, community organizers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, politicians and plaintiffs, who are making a difference in our world and the world at large.

Ruth Gursky

An attorney, nonprofit consultant, athlete and role model, Ruth Gursky bounded onto New York’s nonprofit scene in the early 90’s, assuming leadership roles at Congregation Beth Simchat Torah, Front Runners and Team New York. During her tenure at TNY, Ruth used her boundless energy and tenaciousness to build and inspire a dedicated Board, and created aggressive fundraising goals that sent more than 300 participants to the Amsterdam and Sydney Gay Games. The Federation of Gay Games honored Ruth with the 1998 Tom Waddell Award for Outstanding Gay Games Participant. Currently, Ruth
is focused on helping Hadassah, America’s largest Jewish women’s organization. A
runner and triathlete, Ruth motivates others as marathon coach. “I believe we’re all the leaders the LGBT community has been waiting for. I hope I can continue to use my
creativity, enthusiasm and passion to get things done and make a difference in the lives of New Yorkers!” -CB

Remember, these are in no particular order because we love them all!
