100 Women We Love: Class of 2009

Once again, we celebrate our favorite out and proud women. As difficult as it is to narrow it down to just 100, this year’s eclectic list includes artists, athletes, club promoters, community organizers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, politicians and plaintiffs, who are making a difference in our world and the world at large.

Cherry Jones

We may not have elected a woman into the Oval Office last November, but that didn’t stop 24 producers from creating President Allison Taylor, played by Cherry Jones. A critically acclaimed theater and film actress and out lesbian, Jones is also a longtime advocate for gay rights. She celebrated her second Tony win, for the play Doubt, with an on-camera kiss with her partner, actress Sarah Paulson. Jones told Newsweek this past January that “If a gay candidate with the charisma and the ability to communicate pops up on the scene at a time when we need them,” the candidate will “absolutely” have a chance to win. -CM

Remember, these are in no particular order because we love them all!
