100 Women We Love: Class of 2009

Once again, we celebrate our favorite out and proud women. As difficult as it is to narrow it down to just 100, this year’s eclectic list includes artists, athletes, club promoters, community organizers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, politicians and plaintiffs, who are making a difference in our world and the world at large.

Lori Michaels

An artist and philanthropist, Lori Michaels has been labeled “THE Dyke Diva” for her commanding stage presence. She is also a hands-on musician, writing and arranging her own songs
as well as choreographing her Me & The Girls act, with which she has toured to Pride festivals,
special events, and clubs throughout the country. Her debut album with Reform Records, Living My Life Out Loud, garnered rave reviews and in 2008, she was named one of Curve Magazine’s Entertainers of the Year. In addition to her stellar career as a performer, Michaels is also the founder and president of Reach Out, Inc., the non-profit organization which raises awareness and funds for a variety of programs such as O.U.T. Proud!, an LGBTI Diversity Campaign. “The theme song ‘Reach Out’ and the people who have been a part of all that we do for all these years are what has kept this charitable organization going,” Michaels says, “The song started it all, and the belief that love will conquer all keeps it all going.” -CB

Remember, these are in no particular order because we love them all!
