100 Women We Love: Class of 2009

Once again, we celebrate our favorite out and proud women. As difficult as it is to narrow it down to just 100, this year’s eclectic list includes artists, athletes, club promoters, community organizers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, politicians and plaintiffs, who are making a difference in our world and the world at large.

Darra Gordon

Darra Gordon is the Associate Executive Director of Development for The Hetrick-Martin Institute, the oldest and largest organization dedicated to serving at-risk LGBTQ youth. She is committed to working towards equality in education for LGBT youth, ensuring that the most vulnerable reach their full potential. HMI serves over 1,000 adolescents each year. “The cycle of neglect, abuse and violence for these young people stops at the doors of Hetrick-Martin, where we are
committed to providing lifesaving services and programs,” Gordon said. A true New Yorker, she had previously been the Director of Grants and Individual Giving at the Pearl Theatre Company, a classical repertory
company in the East Village. She and her partner Christine live in the West Village. -KD

Remember, these are in no particular order because we love them all!
